JANUARY
- Cricket returns for 2022 with our senior and junior sides taking part in indoor league action throughout the month;
- The 163rd AGM of Upminster Cricket Club takes place at the clubhouse, having been held on-line the previous year due to the pandemic;
FEBRUARY
- Both of our senior sides continue to struggle in the Riverside Indoor League, with the Hunters and the Tandoori Boys both facing a fight to avoid relegation;
- Winter training continues for our junior and senior sides at the Club Cricket Academy in Ockendon, with coaches Scott Simmons and Adam Wheater putting all of our squads through their paces;
MARCH
- The junior indoor season concludes and Upminster's sides claim a number of honours;
- In the Havering League the U9s, U11s and U15s both claimed a league and cup double, while the U13s were runners-up in the league and beat our own U12s in the Final to win the cup. The U15 Girls also finished as runners-up in the U13 Plate competition;
- In the Central League the U9s and U11s lost out narrowly in their finals, but the U10s beat Brentwood to pick up the silverware;
- In the Riverside Indoor League both Upminster's senior sides, the Hunters and the Tandoori Boys, are relegated from their respective divisions;
- However, both sides end the season in style, winning their cup competitions on Finals Day;
- Draft Night for the seventh edition of the Windmill Whack takes place with a new franchise, Elite Eagles (backed by Elite Finishing) entering the competition;
APRIL
- The Windmill Whack Women's Edition is launched for the third year, with a Draft Night taking place to select the squads for the 2022 season;
- The outdoor season begins as the 1st XI are defeated at Brentwood in a friendly encounter;
- The sun shines on Easter Weekend and the club's senior sides pick up four wins from four, with two on Saturday and two on Sunday;
- The club announce the signing of South African international JJ Smuts for the 2022 season. Smuts, who has played for his country in ODIs and T20 Internationals, would go on to be a hit on and off the pitch during the summer;
- Smuts goes straight into the 1st XI who beat Loughton in the 1st Round of the Dukes Essex League Cup, the result wrapped up thanks to a stunning catch from debutant Aaron Beard;
- The 1st XI's cup run continues as a marvellous century from Smuts helps them dispose of Premier Division Shenfield in round two;
MAY
- The Hamro Foundation Essex League season begins, and Upminster start in style. The first five sides all win, while the 6th XI suffer a loss to Horndon on the Hill;
- Windmill Whack VII begins and there are opening day wins for the Kushoom Bugh Tigers, over the Hunter Hurricanes, and for new boys the Elite Eagles, against the Chairman's Choice;
- The first junior matches of the season take place, with the opening weekend seeing 14 colts games take place in total, 10 resulting in victories;
- DJ Ryan Hodges entertains a packed clubhouse for the annual Bangerz N' Mashupz music quiz;
- The 1st XI end the month in fourth place in the table after a defeat by Harold Wood. A century from Josh Lamont helps the 2s to a win over Wood as they finish May in second place, while the 3rd XI beat Wanstead and Snaresbrook to remain at the top of the Premier Division table;
JUNE
- The Matchplay Final sides from 1996 and 2007 reunite and face off against one another in a game played in aid of the Children's Liver Disease Foundation. The 1996 vintage claimed a narrow victory, but most importantly lots of money (more than £2k) and awareness was raised for the Foundation;
- Windmill Whack franchise sponsors the Kushoom Bugh host a post training Curry Night at the clubhouse;
- The end of the third week in June sees the club's junior section complete 100 games for the season so far, with more than 200 youngsters having represented the club in these matches;
- For the first time in 2022 the club fields a 7th XI on a Saturday. The side fall to a defeat against Millwall Stars but a number of young players put in promising performances;
- The Annual Beer Pong Championships take place in the Clubhouse………..the winner of the championships remains unannounced;
- Despite a number of members being away on a Stag Do, the 1st XI finish the month on a high with a win against Ilford. The 2nd XI claim a draw against their Ilford counterparts at Valentines Park, while the 3rd XI stay on course for the title with a fine victory at Frenford;
JULY
- More than 630 runs are scored in one afternoon at Upminster Park as the 2nd XI draw with title rivals Wanstead and Snaresbrook;
- The Chairman's Choice face elimination from Windmill Whack VII after a defeat to the Hunter Hurricanes, while in the women's event holders the Apple Finance Phoenix squeeze past the Burley Bandits to stay on course for a second successive title;
- A 10 wicket win over Harold Wood sees the 1st XI end July in a good position for promotion. The 2nd XI stay in second place as they also see off Wood, while the 3rd XI also slip into second spot after a frustrating draw against Wanstead and Snaresbrook. Victory over Oakfield Parkonians sees the 4s move into the top half of the table while the 5th XI's promotion chances are dented with a loss to AGHAB and the 6th XI fall to a loss against Harold Wood;
- The club are invited to play Chelmsford CC at Chelmer Park to celebrate the home side's President's Day, with the game ending in a draw;
- The Kushoom Bugh Tigers convincingly beat the Apple Finance Firebirds to put themselves in a good position to reach the Finals Day of Windmill Whack VII;
- At the County Ground, Chelmsford, the Ladies Softball side compete in the County Softball Finals Day, finishing in third place (from more than 20 sides);
AUGUST
- Our U11 Girls and Boys sides take part in the Mini Matchplay competition at the County Ground, Chelmsford. Under the lights, both sides have a great evening and go unbeaten throughout the event;
- The Lower XI Tour to the West Country sees Upminster pick up a win against West Monkton, but the side then fall to losses against Ilton and Falkland, but more importantly the whole touring party had a great week;
- It's a memorable day for the Girls Under 13 side as they claim the County Cup with a narrow win against Hutton at Springfield CC. It's a remarkable achievement for Angela Green's side with the girls section having only been formed a little more than two years ago;
- Surprise package the Chairman's Chiefs all but secure their place at Finals Day in the Windmill Whack Women's edition with a win over reigning champs the Apple Finance Phoenix, while the Ace Avengers keep their hopes alive as they beat the Tolan T-Birds;
- With nearly a month of the season still to play, the junior section complete 200 games played for the season!! A number of our junior sides will take part in finals during September;
- The 1st XI's promotion hopes are ended with a heavy defeat at Ilford, but there is better news for the 2nd XI who clinch the runners-up spot after another victory. A one run to defeat Frenford, their second one run loss of the season, puts an end to the 3rd XI's title chances, as Harlow are crowned Premier Division winners;
- Elite Eagles crown their first season in the Windmill Whack by beating the Hunter Hurricanes to advance straight to the Grand Final;
SEPTEMBER
- A remarkable innings of 200 by Harry Jenkins helps the 1st XI to finish the season in style with a resounding win over Wickford. They end the season in fourth place in the table;
- The 2nd XI finish the season in style as they overcome champions Wanstead and Snaresbrook to cement their runners-up place;
- The 3rd XI defeat champions Harlow in a thrilling game to secure third place in the Premier Division;
- A final day loss to local rivals Hornchurch sees the 4th XI end the season in fifth place;
- The 5th XI squeeze past Gidea Park and Romford to end the season in style and secure the runners-up spot in their division;
- A heavy end of season loss sees the 6th XI drop to seventh place in the end of season standings;
- Central Board Junior Finals Day sees three Upminster sides in action at Bentley CC. There are losses for the U13s and U15s, but a fine win for the U9s, with all three games being played against Harold Wood;
- It is also Plate Finals Day in the Met Board junior competitions, with the U9s and U13s both taking part but falling to narrow defeats;
- The Finals Day of Windmill Whack VII begins on a sombre note, as all players and spectators observe a minutes silence to mark the passing of HM Queen Elizabeth II;
- When the action begins, the Hunter Hurricanes see off the Kushoom Bugh Tigers in the elimination play-off to advance to the Grand Final;
- In the Grand Final the “Canes” produce a major upset as Ant Limn’s men beat the Elite Eagles to claim the title;
- Three Upminster sides take part in the Met Board Junior Finals Day at Woodford Wells. Against very high quality opposition, the U9s, U11s and U15s all miss out on the silverware but put in excellent performances;
- The final junior game of the season brings another cup final defeat, as the U9s are defeated by Aztecs. The game does though crown a quite remarkable season for the club’s junior section;
- The match was the 254th played by our junior sides during the 2022 summer, with nearly 250 young players having represented the club, and nearly 100 further juniors having trained with the club;
- There were TEN cup final appearances (bringing two victories), SIX league titles, and THREE league runners-up spots. But most importantly of all there were hours and hours of fun had by everyone involved and smiles every week on the faces of our junior players;
- The Benefit Match returns!!! After a three year absence a side representing the County came to Upminster Park for a match played in aid of the Essex Cricket Foundation;
- A crowd of nearly 1,000 saw Essex record an 11 run win in a thrilling contest to crown a brilliant occasion;
- Earlier in the day the Final of the Windmill Whack Women’s Edition had taken place, with the Chairman’s Chiefs claiming the title for the first time with a win over the Apple Finance Phoenix;
- The day had also seen several events take place on the ground and in the nets showcasing all aspects of cricket at the club;
OCTOBER
- 1st XI all-rounder Ollie Todd flies out to Australia to spend his winter playing for Johnson Park CC in Victoria;
- Upminster Golf Club hosts the annual Cricket Club Golf Day, with several recounts needed to decide the day’s winners;
- The Annual Dinner and Dance takes place at the Stifford Hall Hotel with over 120 members and guests in attendance;
- During the event Angela Green and Vicky Waters were named as winners of the Keith Martin Club Person of the Year award for their amazing efforts to launch women’s and girls cricket at the club;
- Michael Pedrick is named as the first winner of the Gwynne Mack Spirit of Cricket Award, with the award kindly donated by Gwynne’s family to commemorate his contribution to the club;
- The playing awards for 2023 were won by Dan Simpson (President’s Trophy for Batter of the Year), Nicky Ison (Colin Hart Bowler of the Year) and Rob Mack (Fielder of the Year);
- Joshan Narbheram is named as the John Nash Colt of the Year winner, while the U13 Girls received the honour of the John Dean Team of the Year;
- Junior indoor training begins for the winter, with all age groups taking part in sessions at the Club Cricket Academy in Ockendon;
- All at Upminster were saddened to learn of the passing of Vice-President Peter Hurley who was a long time supporter of the club;
- Indoor league action continues for both our junior and senior sides, with the senior team ending the month unbeaten in the Riverside Indoor League;
NOVEMBER
- In the Riverside Indoor League the senior side remains unbeaten with four wins from four to see them top the table in their bid for promotion;
- In the Havering Junior Indoor League the race for honours continues with a number of Upminster’s sides challenging at the top of the table;
- On Sundays our junior sides continue to do battle in the Central Junior Indoor League. The U10s, U11s and U12s all remain in contention near the top of the table;
DECEMBER
- The club’s Annual Curry Lunch takes place at the Kushoom Bugh Tandoori Restaurant, with a number of members and guests in attendance;
- During the lunch the senior sides’ playing awards for the season were announced. Pulkit Gupta (1st XI), Josh Lamont (2nd XI), Kevin Roome (3rd XI), Nathan Brown (4th XI), Matthew Ingleson (5th XI) and Harry Lawes (6th XI) were all worthy winners;
- Also at the event, Chairman Ollie Peck is presented with a Jack Petchey Leaders Award to mark his immense contribution to the club;
- The last cricket action of the year sees the senior indoor side overcome South Weald in the Riverside Indoor League to open up a 20 point lead at the top of the table;
