The sixth Windmill Whack Women’s Edition will see four sides battling to take the title after the confirmation of two new franchises this weekend.
Taking part for the first time will be the Howden Heat, backed by Howden Insurance, who will be sporting new pastel green playing jerseys for 2025. Howden, who are the fifth biggest employee owned business in the UK and one of the largest insurance groups in the world, initially became involved with UCC in 2024 and have also been backing the Upminster Cricket Club football squad over the winter months. We are delighted they are backing one of or franchises for the 2025 summer.
Also joining the competition for their debut season will be the Root 66’ers. Roots of Upminster, situated just a “good arm” away from our main ground at Upminster Park, is the town’s most popular spot for breakfasts and brunches, using locally sourced premium ingredients. Roots were previously a supporter of the Windmill Whack, with a franchise in the early years of that competition, and we are delighted they are able to support the club once again this summer.
We are also pleased to announce that two of existing franchises will be continuing in the competition for the 2025 competition. The Mullis & Peake Magic, who made their debut in the competition in 2024, will be taking part once again as part of Mullis & Peake’s expanded association with the club. And of course, those famous purple shirts of the Burley Bandits will be seen on the Upminster Park ground once again. The Bandit’s, backed by Burley Transport, are ever presents in the women’s event, finally claimed the crown to conclude the 2024 competition, and they will be looking to retain their title this summer.
Sanjay Narbheram, the club’s Sponsorship Secretary, was delighted to have the support of so many prominent organisations for the 2024 season: “We are thrilled to welcome Howden Insurance and Roots as two new sponsors for the Windmill Whack Women’s Edition. We are equally delighted to retain the support of Burley Transport and Mullis & Peake who have been long term supporters.
“From all of our membership I would like to thank both the new and existing sponsors. The generosity of these organisations will help us to deliver another year of fantastic cricket for Upminster’s women’s players.
“We look forward to welcoming all of our sponsors to the redeveloped pavilion on matchdays when the season is up and running.”
Squads and dates for the 2025 competition will be announced soon, so keep your eye on the club’s website and social media platforms.
