Women's 2nd XI stay top of the table

The Women's 2nd XI stayed on course for the Division 3 title with a win against East Anglian Veterans at Kelvedon.  Upminster won the toss and asked their hosts to bat first, and the home side made an excellent start, reaching 90-1.  Kara Smith broke the second wicket partnership by dismissing Tatiana Golikova, and when Lauren Plumb then bowled top scorer Karen Cutter Upminster began to take control.  Captain Ange Green worked her way through the middle order as she picked up 3-17, but the Veterans ensured they had something to bowl out by using all their overs to finish on 130-7.  Upminster knew they needed a win to stay at the top of the table, but Jami Armes and Emily Woodgate showed no nerves as they began the chase.  They put on 92 for the opening wicket before Woodgate fell for 28, but Armes brought up her first ever half century shortly after.  Armes eventually fell for a brilliant 55 but 16 from Lauren Plumb helped Upminster to secure a crucial six wicket win.

Meanwhile at Upminster Park, the Elite Eagles secured their place at Finals Day with a pair of victories.  Game 1 saw the Eagles chasing a modest 119 to beat the Kushoom Bugh Tigers, but despite a steady chase they needed some last over heroics from Ben Hamberger to secure a four run victory.  The Eagles were also chasing a modest score (95) in Game 2 against the Hunter Hurricanes, but no late heroics were needed this time as a consistent batting performance saw them to a 43 run win.
