Olympic medallist Sunette Viljoen arrives in RM14

Upminster Cricket Club is delighted to announce that Sunette Viljoen has joined the club for the remainder of the 2024 season. Sunette becomes our first ever women’s overseas player and will be representing our Women’s 1st XI over the coming months, as well as coaching all of our women’s and girls teams alongside our existing club coaches.

Sunette has represented her country at both red and white ball cricket during her career (and has a test match half century to her name), but has also represented her country in the Javelin at four Olympic games, and in 2016 claimed a silver medal in Rio with a throw of nearly 65m!!!

Originally from Rustenburg, Sunette is currently part of the Central Gauteng set up in South Africa and still has hopes of playing for her country once again in the future.

We know that all of our members and supporters will make Sunette feel welcome at Upminster over the coming months and we would like to thank everyone at the club and beyond who has helped to make this possible (they know who they are).
