As the season nears its end, our junior section faces another big day tomorrow (Sunday) as three of our colts sides head to Woodford Wells for the Met Board Finals Day. It is a mark of all the efforts put in by players, coaches and managers over the last 18 months that three sides have made their Met Finals, against what has always been very tough and talented opposition.
Leading the way will be our U9s, as they face South Woodford at 10.00am in the Don Coates Trophy Final. Our U9s have enjoyed a memorable season so far, picking up four trophies already, and they will be hoping to add a fifth. South Woodford have themselves enjoyed an excellent season and will provide tough opposition.
At the same time, on the next pitch, our U11s will be up against Oakfield Parkonians in the Haydn Davies Trophy Final. The U11s overcame Frenford in a thrilling semi-final two weeks ago, and before that they had squeezed past Wanstead and Snaresbrook in the quarter-finals by virtue of losing fewer wickets. The squad have already claimed two pieces of silverware this season (the Havering League and Central League West Division) but Parkonians will provide a huge challenge, having overcome a very strong Buckhurst Hill side in their semi-final.
Then in the afternoon (2.30pm-3.00pm start) the U15s will be in action on the main pitch at Wells as they look to claim Cox and Kings Trophy. Dave Siggins' side missed out last week when they were defeated by Harold Wood in a high quality Central Cup Final, but will be looking to go one better tomorrow.
Upminster's players in all three finals will be wearing black armbands to commemorate HM Queen Elizabeth II, following her passing on Thursday.
