Lesley Peters

It was with deep sadness that Upminster Cricket Club learnt of the passing of Lesley Peters last week.  Lesley had been a Vice-President of Upminster Cricket Club for several years, and was a friend to many people associated with the club.

Lesley's husband Brian, also a Vice-President, was a long-term playing member at Upminster, representing the club in two stints, and Lesley was a keen supporter at games during both of those periods.  Lesley and Brian were also regulars on the club tours to North Devon, as well as being familiar faces at social events and at the clubhouse on Saturday evenings.  A number of the club's current more experienced playing members will have taken to the field with Brian at the start of their careers and would have enjoyed the company of Lesley and all of the Peters family in their early days playing for the club.

Lesley was also well known to many members at other clubs in the area, including Gidea Park and Romford where her son Stephen played club cricket.  Stephen went on to enjoy a 20 year first class career with Essex, Worcestershire and Northamptonshire, and Lesley and Brian would often travel hundreds of miles around the county circuit supporting Stephen.  Lesley's daughter Nicola is a long standing Vice-President at Upminster and has been a constant presence around the club for many years, and in recent seasons granddaughter Darcy has been an enthusiastic member of our junior girls squad, while grandson Damon represents the U10s at our sister club, Upminster Hockey Club.

Lesley was known for her sense of humour and love of West Ham, and will be greatly missed by many people associated with Upminster Cricket Club.  Everyone at the club sends their best wishes and condolences to Brian, Nicola, Stephen and the rest of Lesley's family and friends at this difficult time.

**Lesley's funeral will take place at 12.30pm on Tuesday 13th August at South Essex Crematorium (Ockendon Rd, Upminster, RM14 2UY).

Following the service their will be refreshments at Top Meadow Golf Club (Fen Lane, North Ockendon, RM14 3PR).
