For the first time ever, the club has seen its sides progress to the knockout stages of all three of the major junior County competitions in the same season.
The U16s’ victory over Billericay on Sunday saw them progress to the quarter-finals of the Matchplay competition, and they have been handed an away tie at Newham CC in the last eight. The match will take place on Sunday 28th July. The two clubs have never met in the Matchplay before, although the clubs’ junior sides have previously met in a number of other competitions. Upminster have reached the final of the Matchplay competition twice previously, in 1996 and 2007, and they also reached the last four in 2019.
For the first time since the competition began, the U14s are through to the knockout phase of the Sir Alastair Cook Trophy. In many ways the group stage of the competition has been a frustrating one for Upminster, with a number of concessions helping them to the top of their group, however this is something out of the club’s control and it is a great achievement for the side to progress to this stage for the first time. Some games in other groups are still to be completed, so our opponents in the next round are not yet known, but as soon as details are known these will be made available.
Our U12s were very impressive in topping their Brian Taylor Trophy group and their reward is a home tie against Frenford in the last 16, a game which will take place this Sunday (21st) at Upminster Park. The game is a repeat of last year’s last 16 tie between the two clubs, and on that occasion Upminster came out on top by 11 runs. They went on to reach the semi-finals before narrowly losing out to Oakfield Parkonians. Upminster have never reached the final of this competition (in its current or previous guise) but have been losing semi-finalists on three occasions.
The successes in these competitions comes alongside the Girls U15s reaching the Regional semi-final of the National Cup and the U15s and U11s reaching the finals of the Central Cup in their respective age groups.
