Introducing our Men's Captains for the summer ahead

Pulkit Gupta will take over as Men's 1st XI captain for the 2024 season as the side look to push forward after two seasons of mid-table finishes in Division 1 of the Hamro Foundation Essex League.  Gupta joined Upminster in 2020 from Barking and enjoyed a fine first season at the club which concluded with him being named as the winner of the President's Trophy for Batter of the Year. Since then he has gone on to become a mainstay of the 1st XI's batting line up and is known as one of the most reliable batters at any club in Division 1. Gupta was vice-captain to Adam Wheater during the 2023 season and everyone at the club wishes "PK" the best of luck for the summer ahead.

With Nicky Ison having joined Surrey side Claygate for the 2024 season, Billy Wright will take charge of the 2nd XI once again.  Wright has been captain and vice-captain on a number of occasions over the last few years and the unorthodox seam bowler will be looking to continue the 2nd team's excellent progress in recent seasons.  Following relegation from the Premier Division at the end of 2019 the 2s claimed the Prichard Division crown during the 2020 Covid season, the Division 1 title in 2021, before securing second and third place finishes in the Premier Division in 2022 and 2023.   Wright will be supported by Stu Connor who continues as vice-captain.  "Dychey" has been a regular in the 2s since joining from Harold Wood in 2019 and he will be hoping to enjoy another successful season.

After claiming a third Premier Division title in five years it's as you were for the 3rd XI, with Dan Simpson continuing as skipper and opening partner Steve Limn carrying on as vice-captain. Simpson's side were unlucky to miss out on the title in 2022, being pipped to top spot by Harlow, but the roles were reversed in 2023 as Upminster kept their nerve in the final weeks of the season to leapfrog the North Essex side and claim the title.  Both Simpson and Limn will be hoping they can pile up the runs at the top of the order and help their side push for more glory over the coming months.

Ian Munn looks set to continue as 4th XI skipper for 2024.  Munn led the 4s to another respectable mid-table finish last summer in what is a very tough division, and with it ensured his team were the highest finishing 4th XI in Essex.

Aalok "Skinny" Latey will once again take charge of the 5th XI as they look to mount a promotion challenge this summer.  Latey will be leading the 5s for a fifth consecutive season and will be supported by Steward Hammond as vice-captain.  Hammond has lots of previous experience of captaincy in the club's lower elevens, and it is hoped the combination with Latey will lead to a push for promotion from what is a notoriously difficult division to get out of.

The 6th XI leadership team remains unchanged with Ray Calder continuing as captain and Don Triggs as vice-captain.  2023 saw the duo once again lead the side to a top half finish at the same time as helping to progress a number of the club's younger players.  2024 will also see some new opponents for the 6th XI as they move from Division 1 Central to Division 1 East.

Craig Grote will take charge of our new Mid-Essex League XI for what will be an historic season.  It is the first time the club has entered a side in this league, and the team will compete in Division 9 this summer.  Grote will be assisted by the vastly experienced Mike Larke as the team face sides from a number of clubs we haven't competed against for a number of years (if at all in some cases).

Davey will continue to be at the wheel for the Sunday Friendly XI this summer!!  Dave Brown has been leading the team for a number of years now and the side always enjoy a number of entertaining friendly contests with various teams from across East London and Essex.  That looks set to continue this summer with a number of games against old and new opponents already pencilled in for the coming months.
